Beautifully furnished, this English country house is elegantly appointed throughout, with spacious accommodation for up to 23 guests in 9 en-suite bedrooms.
BEAFORD COUNTRY HOUSE is a grand, south facing gentleman’s residence, set in 30 acres of gardens and grounds, atop the River Torridge Valley, with breathtaking views towards Dartmoor. Over the years the house has been host to many of the Great Train Robbers, both before and after the robbery! Some were even arrested at the house, notes being stashed up some of the bedroom fireplaces.
No matter what the weather BEAFORD COUNTRY HOUSE has so much to offer. When the sun is shining you won't want to leave, the fantastic swimming pool and beautiful gardens will occupy you for hours. When the weather gets cooler, snuggle up by the log fires with a hot chocolate or glass of mulled wine or why not wander out into the garden for a snowball fight or a spot of sledging!!
BEAFORD COUNTRY HOUSE is the ideal wedding venue set in its own mature gardens providing a lovely backdrop for wedding photographs. The venue is licensed to hold civil wedding ceremonies, and there is a large ballroom, the perfect place for a wedding reception. The surrounding grounds make a perfect backdrop for photographs, drinks and canapes, and there is parking for a 25+ cars.
Perfect for conversation, gatherings and relaxation is the large comfortable drawing room. Featuring a large wood-panelled fireplace, it has one wall of floor-to-ceiling French doors, comfy sofas, occasional chairs and tables. There are books and board games for cosy nights in, and a small selection of DVDs.
For the children, a cosy snug is ideal with TV, video and games, and a wood panelled fireplace.
A bookcase-lined hall, filled with books, leads to the extensive dining room where three floor-to-ceiling French doors lead out to the lawns, verandah and swimming pool. Elegantly furnished, with a large table, to seat 24, this room too boasts a wood panelled original fireplace and contains a pool table and seating areas. With high ceilings, unique antiques, and opulent decor, this is a dining room full of character! The open plan feeling to this room is wonderful, feel free to 'fling' the doors open and let the outside come inside, enjoy a drink on the patio or light up the barbecue and dine alfresco!
If you are planning a special occasion, or just want to have a party, there is a fabulous ballroom available, at an additional cost. Please enquire for more details.
The newly fitted kitchen is attractively decorated with granite topped units, a table with seating, a blue four-oven AGA, a 6-burner gas cooker, microwave, coffee machine, blender, kettle, toaster and all the little extras guests will need during their stay.
Off the kitchen is a scullery housing a commercial dishwasher (washes dishes in 2 minutes!), sink and original crockery shelving, while to the rear of the kitchen is a second kitchen with american style fridge, freezer, sink and and more storage cupboards.
The original washroom houses the washing machine. A corridor with original red quarry tiling leads to the servant’s entrance - ideal for muddy boots and shoes! A second servants’ staircase leads to the first floor.
If you don't fancy doing all of the cooking yourselves while on holiday, in-house caterers can be provided either with meal drop-offs or full catering - please enquire for more details.
