In the very heart of Tarka Country, the wonderful landscape has remained practically unchanged since Henry Williamson wrote his classic novel ?Tarka the Otter? in the 1920?s.
Torrington boasts a wonderful selection of visitor attractions; from internationally renowned Dartington Crystal Ltd, producing clear, contemporary glassware to export around the world, to the beautiful Royal Horticultural Society gardens, there is something for every taste and every member of the family. Barometer World, (with the biggest collection of barometers in the world) is just outside Torrington, whilst the colourful, new, interactive, 17th century family experience at Torrington 1646, the heart of the "Cavalier Town" is conveniently right in the centre of the town.
